The good stuff in Curaçao is a sunken tugboat in five metres of water, and you can’t walk to it.
You board at Mood Beach on Mambo Boulevard at 10:00 AM and sail east along the coast for an hour to an hour and a half. First stop is usually the Tugboat: a small wreck standing upright on the sand, crusted in coral and sponges, wrapped in blue tang, sergeant majors and the occasional barracuda hanging in the blue. Mask and snorkel are included and the crew shows first-timers how it’s done.
Back on board a light lunch buffet comes out — fresh, cold, easy — and the bar opens while Fort Beekenburg and the cliffs of Caracas Bay slide past on the starboard side. Second stop: the Saba wreck, Doggy Beach or the Caracas Bay pier, depending on where the fish are that day. Turtles and rays show up more often than you’d expect. On the way home the catamaran ducks into Spanish Water — the lagoon lined with yachts and villas — and you’re back at Mood Beach around 3:00 PM.
This is the trip for snorkel-curious families, couples who want a boat day without an 8-hour commitment, and cruise guests who plan carefully: Mood Beach is 20–30 minutes from the terminal, check-in is 9:45 AM and you’re back by 3:00 PM. Beginners welcome. Kids welcome. Nobody needs to be a strong swimmer — sheltered bays, shallow wrecks, crew in the water with you.
