About This Tour
Discover Prison Island (Changuu Island) the authentic way — by traditional local wooden boat directly from Stone Town. Your friendly Zanzibari captain and guide will take you across the channel to the island, famous for its giant Aldabra tortoises — many over 100 years old.
Start with a guided visit to the tortoise sanctuary, where you can walk freely among these incredible creatures and take photos. Then your guide leads you through the old prison and quarantine ruins, explaining how the island got its name and its historical significance.
Afterwards, enjoy free time to swim, relax on the small beach, or take photos. Snorkeling is possible only if you bring your own equipment.
