Samaná Whale Watching + Bacardi Island Full Day Tour

Each winter, between 1,500 and 7,000 humpback whales migrate from the North Atlantic to the Bay of Samaná to breed and calve. At peak season, 300+ whales are in the bay at any given moment. This is one of the world's most accessible humpback breeding grounds — and it's only open from 15 January to 31 March.

Cast off at 09:30 from Samaná Town Marina toward the Marine Mammal Sanctuary. The captain and onboard whale-watching guide follow protocols that keep boats at respectful distance — no chasing, no engine noise close-ups. You'll see breaches, tail slaps, courtship displays, and hear the underwater song of males calling for mates.

Mid-day: sail to Cayo Levantado — the original Bacardi Island from the 1970s rum commercial. Lunch is served at the beach restaurant, included in your ticket. Free time to swim or walk the sand. Return sail to Samaná by 16:30, often with one more whale sighting on the way back across the bay.
