About This Tour
Skip the resort buffet boat parade. This is the real Los Haitises — 1,600 km² of karst hills, the largest mangrove forest in the Caribbean, and Taíno caves that have been quiet for eight centuries.
Morning: weave through Cayo de los Pájaros, where pelicans and frigatebirds wheel low overhead. Glide into the mangrove channels of San Lorenzo Bay. Step into Cueva de la Línea and Cueva del Ferrocarril, where Taíno pictographs and petroglyphs have survived since well before Columbus made landfall on this same coast in 1493.
Afternoon: cross the Bay of Samaná to Cayo Levantado — the original Bacardi Island from the 1970s rum commercial. White sand, palm shade, calm turquoise shallows on the north side. Lunch is served beachside, included in your ticket. Free time to swim, walk the sand, or sit under the palms until the boat heads back across the bay.
