About This Tour

Skip the resort pool. Forty-five minutes off the Fajardo dock at Villa Marina, the 47-foot catamaran Barefoot IV drops anchor at Cayo Icacos — the largest cay in La Cordillera Nature Reserve, an uninhabited spit of white sand and shallow turquoise just 1.5 miles off the coast. No vendors, no hotels, no Wi-Fi. That's the point.

You'll sail east with the El Yunque ridge to your right and the Atlantic horizon stretching ahead. Once anchored, you have hours to swim, float, or wade waist-deep in water so clear you can see your own toes. A reef snorkel stop on the way back lets you spot parrotfish, sergeant majors, and the occasional sea turtle. Lunch is a build-your-own deli bar — fresh bread, cold cuts, cheeses, tuna and chicken salads, tropical fruit. The bar pours piña coladas, rum punch, sodas, juice, and water. The crew runs salsa, reggaetón, and Top 40 on the speakers for the sail home.

Castillo Tours has run boats from Fajardo since 1975. Three generations of family operators, USCG-certified, crews who have worked together for years. This is Puerto Rico the way locals do it, not the way the resort brochure describes it.
