One o'clock. The town is still deciding what to do with its afternoon, and you are already clearing the bay with the sails going up.
You pass the white Cristo de la Misericordia statue on the headland, turn north, and spend about an hour sailing an empty stretch of Nicaraguan coastline to Playa Blanca. Your drinks are open from the moment you clear the bay, and if you are lucky you will spot dolphins or sea turtles along the way, though the crew can never promise them. The boat anchors off a private beach where nobody is selling you anything and there are no loungers for rent. It cannot come in close, so your swim to the sand is part of the deal - a short one, and it changes with the tide. Floats and snorkel gear are on board for you.
Around half past three, your ceviche, guacamole, cream cheese dip, vegetables and plantain chips are shared around the cockpit. Then you sail home with the light going gold behind you and the coastline turning to silhouette, back at the pier by six. If you want to fish, ask the crew and your trolling lines go out on the way there and back. If you came to Nicaragua for the coast rather than the nightlife, whether as a couple or with a group of friends, this is the sail we would put you on.

Here’s how your trip unfolds, step by step.
Check-in at the marina
Meet at the floating docks next to Tuanis Bar, south end of town. Short panga transfer out to the catamaran at anchor.
Sails up, out of the bay
Leave the harbour past the headland and the Cristo de la Misericordia statue. Trolling lines go out on request.
One hour north along the coast
Open Pacific sailing along an undeveloped stretch of coastline. Drinks are open from the moment you clear the bay.
Anchor at Playa Blanca
Private beach stop. Swim in to the sand, float off the back of the boat, or stay aboard - your call.
Beach time and snacks
Paddleboard, frisbee and football on the sand. Ceviche and dips served around 3:30 PM.
Golden hour sail home
Anchor up and sail south with the sun dropping. Back alongside the pier at 6:00 PM.
