Most Tortuga Island trips start with the worst part of the day: an early hotel pickup, a bus across the country, then an hour and a half on the water before anyone sees sand. This one leaves from Los Suenos, ten minutes from Jaco, and the crossing takes forty-five minutes.
You check in at the marina, board a catamaran, and coffee, fresh fruit and a light breakfast come out as you clear Herradura Bay. Your chair and umbrella are set up before you land. Snorkelling runs first, then the banana boat, then buffet lunch on the island: grilled chicken, rice with vegetables, sauteed potatoes and two salads, with Jungle Juice and margaritas. The afternoon is open, with the island nature trail and the beach.
This is the tour we recommend for anyone with one day to spend on the water in the Central Pacific: couples, families with children, and first-time visitors who want everything handled. If you would rather have the boat to yourselves, we run private charters from the same marina.
