About This Tour
Each winter, between 1,500 and 7,000 humpback whales migrate from the North Atlantic to the Bay of Samaná to breed and calve. This is one of the world's most accessible humpback breeding grounds — and it's only open from 15 January to 31 March.
The half-day format is for travelers with limited time, cruise passengers on a shorter port stop, or anyone who wants the whale experience without the full-day island lunch. Cast off at 09:30 from Samaná Town Marina toward the Marine Mammal Sanctuary.
Onboard whale-watching guide narrates behavior — breaches, tail slaps, courtship displays, the underwater song of males. Respectful viewing protocols — no chasing, no engine close-ups. Snacks, water and soft drinks onboard. Back at the marina by 13:30 — in time for lunch in town.
