About This Tour
Experience Prison Island (Changuu Island) your way with a private boat charter departing from Stone Town. Your captain and guide will take your group only — giving you full flexibility and privacy during this half-day adventure.
After a scenic 20–30 minute ride on a traditional local wooden boat, you'll reach the island and begin with a visit to the giant Aldabra tortoise sanctuary — many of these incredible creatures are over 100 years old. You'll have plenty of time for photos, close encounters, and walking freely among the tortoises.
Your guide will then take you through the old prison and quarantine buildings, explaining how the island got its name and its historical significance.
After the guided visit, enjoy free time for swimming, relaxing, or taking beach photos. If you bring a snorkel mask, you may explore the shallow reef near shore — snorkel gear is not provided.
Throughout your tour, you'll receive 2 bottles of water per guest and soft drinks.
